I have a feeling that this week is a bit frantic for everyone no matter what your creative practice. Whether you have orders to fill or deadlines to meet, this last working week before Christmas, with all the associated activity of the holidays, can be exhausting.
Mindful of how little time you all have to read blog posts right now, I just wanted to touch on the importance of not losing the big picture. With so much to do it’s easy to get blinkered, to become dead focused on what needs doing, that we forget why we are doing these things. And in this momentary forgetting we can lose our energy and motivation.
Take a few minutes for yourself this week to reconnect with your values, with your own personal ‘big picture’ and gather up the energy you need for the last burst of activity of the year.
Ask yourself these questions:
-
Who or what is all this for? Why do I do it?
-
What do I love about it?
-
What makes me excited about my work?
-
What am I looking forward to starting in 2018?
Then, find a piece of feedback or a testimonial from a customer or client – one that sings your praises, tells you how much they value your work, makes you feel all fuzzy or a bit teary to read. Look at it and remember: this is what it’s all about, and know that you’ve got this.
Merry Christmas everyone! See you next week.
