MELODY VAUGHAN

On Monday 20th October I am holding a book sale on my Instagram Stories to raise funds for the anti-capitalist mutual aid orgainsation Bridge of Solidarity in Gaza – in particular their Winter campaign.

Here are their needs:

Bridge of Solidarity is fundraising rapidly to meet our communities urgent demands to prepare for winter. Winter is hell in Gaza, with freezing to death a huge issue. We are focused on helping as many people as possible in Al Mawasi with getting winter clothes, winter tents, heating supplies, and other winter necessities. Over 2 million people will be crammed into 12 miles in Al Mawasi this winter.

Scroll down for full details of how this works and to see the books/magazines.

About Bridge of Solidarity

Bridge of Solidarity is an anti-capitalist mutual aid organization founded in Gaza by Yazan, in Al Mawasi, Khan Younis.

All money goes directly to people in need of support, and none is kept for Yazan or other volunteers.

These efforts are focused on the most marginalized in Gaza most at risk of dying: people without phones, English skills, social media, wealthy relatives, outside support, and living relatives.

These efforts actively combat genocide capitalism with mutual aid, and violent “survival of the fittest” ways of turning on each other with collective care.

These efforts also actively combat the ways Palestinians are turned into a spectacle by the English speaking world and West, and are forced into performing on social media in a pity economy and attention economy, always have to compete with each other.

HOW IT WORKS

I will open the sale at 1pm UK time on Monday 20th October in my Instagram stories and close it at 7pm*

In the meantime you can browse the information about the books/magazines here.

I have priced each book with a suggested minimum donation which I think fairly reflects the condition of the book and its price if you were to buy new.

If all the books sell at the minimum price we will raise £125 for Bridge of Solidarity. Of course I would love this to be more, so please give as generously as you are financially able to.

This sale is open to anyone, anywhere – I will cover the cost of postage to anywhere in the world.

During the sale

  • The first person to reply to the book’s story will ‘win’ the book.

  • That person then has 3 hours to make a donation to Bridge of Solidarity’s Winter fundraiser directly and send a screenshot of the receipt to me via DM.

  • If the winner doesn’t respond within the 3 hours I will offer the book to the next person who replied to the story and repeat the process.

*If the books don’t sell within this window I will continue to share the details in my stories in the following days and anyone who is interested can DM me.
